Well last night didn't quite go according to plan but turned out to be good fun anyway. We dropped Nathalie off at her friends' place in downtown LA and then went to Burbank to check out blues guitarist Pete Anderson. He obviously hadn't heard that we were coming, as he decided not to turn up. We consoled ourselves with an excellent dinner in a bizarre hybrid Irish / English / Scottish pub. It was the sort of place where the locals probably go to have an all-round British experience (Ireland being part of Britain of course). And it had a skeleton playing the piano...
After that we found a huge bowling centre with about 20 pool tables, so a few games of pool were played. Not being a competitive family, we were happy when the evening ended all square.
Today's trip down the coast to San Diego involved a couple of nice stops, first in Seal Beach, where of course there no seals, only skeletons on bicycles ... and dolphins.
The second stop was San Clemente, where we had a superb lunch in the Fisherman's Bar and Restaurant, overlooking the Pacific.
Arrived in San Diego to find a very nice, quirky house full of art and music, complete with a variety of welcome gifts (wine and chocolate being the most important), information packs, music playing on the hi-fi, wonderful art everywhere and masses of books.
A great place from which to explore the city, starting with one or two local watering holes tonight.
