Day 2 - The Road to Santa Monica

Cycled down to Venice Beach this morning and then along the coastal cycle path to Santa Monica.

Took a walk down the pier, a nice retro experience apart from the arcade game that Louis and I played - a 3D horror bloodbath involving zombies, aliens, loud screams, vibrating seats and blasts of cold air. There was even a panic button for those too terrified to continue. They never had that sort of thing at Pleasureland in Southport.

We then went "downtown", but could not see the Downtown Abbey anywhere. Maybe they film that programme in one of the Hollywood studios? Anyway, it turns out "downtown" was a bit bland, with all the same shops you'd see in Westfield, apart from Old Navy. Money was duly spent, however, and our collection of Crocs shoes was replenished at a very reasonable price. Nathalie doesn't have a collection but she took the opportunity to start one of her own.

Lunch was a light and healthy salad in a Mexican restaurant, washed down with some light and healthy Mexican beer.

A post-lunch stroll back to the beach at Santa Monica...

On the way back, Venice Beach was starting to fill up with various performers and weirdos. Actually, some of the performers were extremely talented and richly deserve their "tips". One guy was making his money from apparently levitating. Quite impressive - I wonder if it's magic or maybe just some kind of trick? Probably magic...

Back at the ranch, the two women were so exhausted from their little bike ride that they felt the need to wallow about in a hot tub like pampered celebrities. The shame of it. Tonight, further adventures beckon but we know not yet what they may be. Meanwhile, a couple of pics of the Zen-like garden...
